Dan Ashworth has left his role as technical director at Manchester United in shock. After just five months in the job.

Premier League giants Manchester United have officially announced this morning that Dan Ashworth has agreed to leave his role as technical director by mutual consent. Having only taken up the role on July 1.

The decision was made following a meeting between Ashworth and the club’s chief executive Omar Berrada last night. Which followed the club’s 3-2 home defeat to Nottingham Forest.

During Ashworth’s tenure, Erik ten Hag was sacked as Man Utd manager in October and replaced by Ruben Amorim – with it being reported at the time. That Ashworth and Berrada led negotiations on appointing the Portuguese coach.

Ashworth also had successful spells at Brighton and the FA. Before Newcastle, and was seen as a statement appointment by minority owners INEOS, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe hailing him “one of the best sporting directors in the world”.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, one of the club’s major shareholders, is reportedly involved in the decision. However, the Red Devils have no plans to replace him at this time.
